May vs. The A’s

Dustin May made one appearance this week, it was the Monday game vs the A’s. He went 6 innings striking out eight batters, surrendering two hits while also walking two. It was the start I was looking for after having a strong spring.

April 5th May vs the A’s

Dustin May struggled with his Cutter and Curve command a bit in the first inning. struggled to find the zone so he ended up giving up a lead-off hit to Mark Canha he also walked Matt Olson because he couldn’t find his cutter. He did strike out Mitch Moreland on the cutter and got Chapman to ground out to end the inning.

In his second inning of work he struck out two and walked another because Turner made a throwing error that allowed the inning to continue. but got Canha to ground out to end the inning despite having two on for the second consecutive inning.

In the third inning is when young Dustin May started to find his groove. He struck out Olson and Moreland on the cutter to give him five strikeouts through three innings of work.

4th inning was more of the same. Struck out Chapman on a nasty sinker down then got two groundouts to Rios to end the inning.

in the fifth inning, Andrus again grounded to Turner this time Turner was able to make the play to help out May. He then struck out Tony Kemp and got Canha on a lineout.

in his last inning of work. May got Olson swinging on a high cutter. He did give up a single to Moreland but more of nothing for the A’s that inning.

Dustin May really utilized the cutter to lefties in this outing vs the A’s while also keeping the trend of throwing high four seam fastballs. I was at the game in person and he looked fantastic out there. Mixed his pitches well, looked comfortable, and got a lot of swings and misses from a lineup that provides that. He did his job and did it well. I’m looking forward to his next start to see how he follows up a dominant season opener for him.
