MAX MUNCY: SPRING TRAINING WEEK 4 RECAP

Not as much power from Max this week and a few more strike outs that we usually see.  But considering how everyone has been itching to get out of Spring Training and into a big league field, I don’t think we should be worried about Max Muncy just yet.

Muncy Vs. the Giants

Max lead off the second inning and drew a walk on a full count from pitcher Scott Kazmir.  If there’s any Dodger I’m gonna trust to get a walk on a full count, it’s gonna be Max Muncy.  One out later, Lux moves him over to second, but is out on a fielder’s choice.  Because of this, he was able to score on Ruíz’s well-hit single during the next at bat.  Muncy has more wheels than people seem to credit him with, but he didn’t need them for this situation.  He scored from second easily.

Ruíz, by the way, would knock in three of the four Dodgers runs in this game.  Yet another talented catcher in the Dodgers farm system!

Muncy walked again in the fourth with only one out but left the game as pinch runner Matt Davidson took over for him.  Ruíz would come up and knock Davidson in on a 2-RBI single.

Dodgers lost to the Giants 10-4.

Muncy vs. the Mariners

Max played a small ball game against the Mariners.  He flew out to left in the second inning, but came back for a single up the middle that skimmed pitcher Justus Sheffield’s ball cap.  In the next at bat, Chris Taylor knocked a homer that brought them both around and back to home plate.

In the sixth inning, Muncy hit a lead off single against the shift into the wide gap at third base.  Andy Burns came in to pinch run for him.  And while Max was technically out of the game, Burns was able to come home on a sac fly from Matt Beaty, so his efforts paid off for the Dodgers.  Sadly, those three runs would be the only Dodger runs in the game.

Dodgers lost to the Mariners 3-7.

Muncy vs. the Brewers

Muncy was not as effective against the Brewers, grounding into a double play in the first and striking out swinging in the fourth. On the defense side, he had a rough game as well.  In the third, he bobbled a smoked ball that ricocheted off his glove that allowed a run on. It’s worth noting that Max recovered very quickly and almost got catcher Omar Narvaez at first with Buehler covering.

Dodgers lost to the Brewers 6-9.

Muncy vs. the Cubs

Sadly, we did not get to see Old Friend Joc Pederson in this game.  Max wasn’t at his best either, unfortunately.  He was tagged out on a grounder in the second, called out looking in the fourth, and flied out in the sixth to end the inning.  He also lost control of a bad throw from Seager that allowed a run to score.

Dodgers won 5-2.

Muncy vs. the Athletics

Well, I wouldn’t say anything went particularly well for any one in this game wearing Dodger Blue.  Max was no exception.  He went 0-3 with a fly out in third base foul territory, and not much better after that.  To Muncy’s questionable credit, the entire team was including in the resounding loss.

Dodgers lose 11-0 in eight painful innings.

Max did not play in the 9-2 loss to Cleveland

Overall, not the best stat line this week, but still some bright moment.  He ran up his pitch count as expected and still brought a lot of power when the bat hit the ball.  I’m guessing he’s in the same place most players are – ready to get back to the home stadium and get down to repeating a championship season.
