CODY BELLINGER: SPRING TRAINING WEEK 3 RECAP

CODY BELLINGER: SPRING TRAINING WEEK 3 RECAP

Making his 2021 debut is the one and only World Champion, Cody Bellinger.

Welcome Back, Belli! It’s been an eventful start but nothing better than getting to see you out on the field again. A word of advice: While we all love seeing your wild side and celebrating, be careful and stay healthy because your road to being a Champion once more has just begun.

Bellinger vs. the Brewers

Bellinger made his 2021 Cactus League debut on March 16th against the Brewers. In his first at-bat, he grounded out to the pitcher in the second inning.  At this point, the Dodgers were down 2-0. Bellinger’s next turn came up during the fourth inning.  He struck out. The Dodgers were now down 5-0. The bottom of the sixth inning came along, and Bellinger grounded out to 2B.

Belli ended his night with three ABs and zero hits. It wasn’t the best, but we have to remember that he is still warming up, and it’s only a matter of time before he gets back into rhythm.

Bellinger was not in the lineup for the following March 17th game against the White Sox.

Bellinger vs. the Diamondbacks

The next time we got to see Belli was on March 18th against the Diamondbacks. In his first AB, he flew out to the left. By the next time he came to bat in the third, the Dodgers were leading 3-0. Bellinger flew out to left once more but advanced Max Muncy to third. Bellinger’s first Spring Training hit came in the fifth inning, a single to right.

Coming up to the stretch, the Dodgers were tied with the Diamondbacks 6-6. The infamous “lucky 7th” inning meant our World Champion had to give something to remember.

Bellinger hit his first 2021 homer, giving the Dodgers a lead 7-6.  Boy, did we all miss hearing that sound as a “Belli Bomb” flew out of the park. The game ended in a 7-7 tie.

Bellinger vs. the Padres

Bellinger got a one-day break and was back in the lineup on March 20th against the Padres. In this game, he had three ABs and struck out twice. Having no hits this night, the Dodgers managed to end the game tied 4-4 with the Padres.

But hey, this is his first week back. We all can’t wait to see more Belli Bombs and home run robberies in the future.
