CLAYTON KERSHAW: SPRING TRAINING WEEK 3 RECAP

We are officially less than two weeks from Opening Day and Kershaw is officially the Opening Day Starter!

Imagine the feeling of going out into a stadium (partially) full of fans as the current World Champion to open the first game of the entire season. Quite the beginning to his fight to earn a second World Series title.

So, how did Kershaw do this week?

His third Spring Training outing came against Milwaukee on March 16th. With a total of four innings pitched, his innings are increasing with every outing.

Unfortunately, this start didn’t go Kershaw’s way.  His first opponent, Kolten Wong, homered off him, followed by another homer from Luis Urías. Up next to bat is Bradley, Jr., who grounds off to him. Kershaw then gave up back-to-back singles from Hiura and Shaw. He finally ended the inning when Navárez struck out swinging.

As the second inning came around, the Dodgers were still down 2-0. Kershaw managed to get out of the inning quickly, striking out Robertson, followed by ground outs from Taylor and Maile.

The third inning proved to be the worst of the night for Kershaw as Milwaukee scored three more runs off three back-to-back singles coming from Wong, Urías, and Bradley, Jr.  By the end of the third, the Dodgers were down 5-0.

Kershaw went out again in the fourth but managed to leave without obtaining any more damage, thus ending his night.

While it wasn’t his best night, we can expect better things from him as the season begins. Remember, it’s still Spring Training. The players are still warming up and getting into a rhythm, even if their eyes are already on October.
