COREY SEAGER: SPRING TRAINING WEEK 2 RECAP

COREY SEAGER: SPRING TRAINING WEEK 2 RECAP

Who’s going to stop Corey Seager? The 2020 World Series MVP had a huge second week of Spring Training, belting three home runs and notching seven RBIs. The home runs were bombs too, with two going to the opposite field and the other going dead center. In Seager’s second week of Spring Training, he now leads the Dodgers in home runs and RBIs this spring with 3 and 8, respectively.

Pitchers can’t sneak fastballs by him anymore. If they throw one anywhere near the zone, Seager’s swinging.  And he’s not missing.

Orel Hershiser said something on the broadcast this week regarding Seager’s power that stuck with me. Following one of Seager’s homers, he pointed out that, prior to 2020, these balls hit to left field by Seager were dying on the warning track. This is because Seager’s strength was not built all the way back up after his hip and elbow surgeries. Now that it is, these balls have more carry and more backspin, allowing Seager to drive it over the fence and jog around the bases rather than stop at second base for doubles.

Hitting doubles is a trademark of Seager’s, leading the National League with 44 in 2019. Heading into 2021, though, we may see this number actually dip in exchange for more home runs.

Seager’s timing is on point right now as well. Since the beginning of last year, it just seems like everything he hits is a liner. His .421 batting average this spring certainly reflects that.

All in all, it’s looking like Corey Seager is already locked in for the 2021 season!
