After signing with the Dodgers in January of 2007, then-third-baseman Pedro Baez, a power hitting third baseman with an elite infield arm, began his professional career in rookie ball with the Gulf Coast Dodgers. After a couple of years in rookie and A-ball, Baez eventually made it to double-A with the Chattanooga Lookouts. But his path as a third baseman ended as he failed to advance further in the Dodgers farm system as a hitter.

Baez possessed a strong arm but lacked the ability to compete as a position player at higher levels. The Dodgers opted to convert Baez in 2012 to the bullpen. By the end of 2013 Baez had been added to the 40-man roster, and over 7 years after he had signed with the Dodgers, he made his Major League debut in May of 2014. He bounced back and forth between the big leagues and the minors throughout most of 2014. He found his way onto the opening day roster the following season.

Pedro Baez throws a fourseam fastball that averages 95 MPH, a changeup that and a slider that both average 87 MPH. While he has largely been a flyball pitcher in his career, his approach has changed over the years. He developed new ways to draw weak contact from opposing hitters. Pedro has now thrown over 350 innings in relief for the Dodgers, posting a 3.06 ERA and a 130 ERA+ in his career. Earning the nickname β€œLa Mula” for his strong work ethic, Baez has long been an unsung hero in the Dodgers bullpen.
