A week in review: Julio Urias

Julio’s start this week was a mixed bag for me. He only gave up 1 run in his 6 innings of work against the Astros but he also walked 4 in those 6 innings. Command as all year long has been an issue for young Julio. However even with the 4 walks and 3 hits he did a great job of only giving up one run and working out of trouble which is encouraging to see. I don’t know when we will see consistency from Urias but it’s clear he’s at least a middle of the rotation starter which is a far cry from his ACE expectations but the shoulder injuries will do that to players. Julio has this issue where he’s nowhere near the plate or around the middle of the plate too much. If he can get his fastball up in the zone more and make the curve look like a strike longer before it drops out he would look a lot better. I have been happy with how he mixes his pitches, as always it’s just about the command..
