Seager Breaks Hand, Expected To Miss At Least A Month- Weekly Recap: May 10th – May 16th

Remember spring training? When Corey Seager was an MVP favorite? After struggling a bit in the first month and a half of the season, Corey Seager was hit by a pitch from Marlins pitcher Ross Detwiler and is now expected to miss at least a month with a broken right hand.

SEAGER vs. Mariners

May 11thΒ  – LUX IS THE HERO

Kenley Jansen saved this game, but Gavin Lux was the hero, hitting a three-run home run in the eighth inning. It wasn’t a bad game for Corey Seager either. In the first inning, Seager grounded out to second. He struck out swinging in the third inning versus Yusei Kikuchi and then lined out in the fifth inning. In the seventh inning, though, Seager came up to bat with the bases loaded and two outs, Dodgers down 4-1. He promptly singled to right to cut the deficit to 4-3 and set the stage for Lux to be the hero.

May 12th – DODGERS WIN FIRST SERIES IN MAY

Seager lined out in his first at-bat, in the first inning. He then came up to bat with a man on second in the third inning and grounded out. In the fifth inning, he lined out again and, in the sixth, he flew out to left field. Seager got another at-bat in the eighth but struck out swinging.

SEAGER vs. Marlins

May 14th – DODGERS HOLD ON FOR 9-6 WIN

A game that looked like a rout early ended up being a close one, with the Dodgers still on top. Seager grounded out to second in the first inning. Seager got an RBI single that scored Clayton Kershaw and then scored on a Max Muncy home run in the next inning. In the fourth inning, Seager got another single. He flew out to center in the sixth inning and grounded out to second in the eighth.

May 15th – SEAGER IS HIT BY PITCH, BREAKS HAND

It started like any other game. In the first inning, Seager earned a walk. Then came the third inning, and he flew out to left. His third plate appearance was a hit by a pitch and a costly one. The pitch was a 90 MPH sinker from Marlins reliever Ross Detwiler that hit Corey Seager on his right pinkie finger. Watching the play live, it sounded like the ball hit the knob of the bat, but Seager immediately winced in pain, and it was apparent the ball hit nothing but bone. He was taken out of the game, replaced by Sheldon Neuse.

Luckily for Corey Seager and the Dodgers, he will dodge surgery as the pitch from Detwiler hit Seager on his fifth metacarpal, the bone closest to his palm in his right pinkie. Dave Roberts said the “floor” for Seager’s return is four weeks, but that isn’t certain. “I don’t know. You’ve just got to let it happen.”

We wish you a speedy recovery, Corey, and we can’t wait to see you back on the field!
