MOOKIE BETTS: SPRING TRAINING WEEK 4 RECAP

MOOKIE BETTS: SPRING TRAINING WEEK 4

Mookie Betts played in five games this week and had two hits in his 11 at-bats. It wasn’t the best of weeks for one Mookie Betts. He kind of got away from what was working in the previous weeks.

Mookie vs. the Giants

Against the Giants, he went a quick 0-for-2. In the first at-bat, he swung at the first pitch and was jammed as the ball got in on his hands, and he popped out to the right fielder. In the next at-bat of the game, he struck out on a pitch on the inside corner. That concluded his night.

Mookie vs. the Mariners

His next game was against the Mariners and Justus Sheffield. He went 0-3 and again abandoned working counts and was swinging at the 1st pitch. In his first AB, he grounded it up the middle into the shift, unfortunately. The next at-bat, he got way under it and flew out to right. His last at-bat pretty quick flyout to center.

Mookie vs. the Brewers

The next game, he got 2 at-bats against Corbin Burnes and the Brewers, and he singled to left on a pitch that moved back over the plate. In his second and final at-bat of the game, he grounded out to short and very uncharacteristically of him chased pitches.

Mookie vs. the Cubs

He got three at-bats against the Cubs and struck out on a pitch at his shoulders the first time up. A bad call by the home plate umpire but a strikeout nonetheless. The next at-bat, he popped up to right field, and he followed that up by singling to center on a pitch on the outer half of the plate in his last at-bat.

Mookie vs. the A’s

His final appearance of the week came against the A’s. He finished 0-for-1 in two plate appearances. His first appearance was much more like the Betts we’re used to seeing, where he worked the count and drew a leadoff walk. Then in his next and final AB of the game, he struck out on a pitch that was a tad high and just got the outside corner.

It was a bit of a rough week for one Mookie Betts, but he’s looking to do what he did in weeks two and three and carry that over the season, which begins on Thursday against the Rockies.
