Rollercoaster of emotions
This past week or so I’ve been through a lot emotionally as a Dodgers fan. When the rumors broke out that the Dodgers were trying to trade for Mookie Betts and David Price. I thought “okay cool but, I hope they actually get him”. I didn’t think anything of it but I was definitely excited.
The trade rumors died down a lot. Everyone was saying their “sources” said the talks between the Dodgers and Red Sox have simmered down. Which I felt let down yet again by the Dodgers front office. Soon after the “trade talks died” there was breaking news everywhere. Mookie Betts and David Price have been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. I started freaking out checking the MLB’s twitter and every major analyst of the MLB twitter accounts to see if this was true. Maybe 5 minutes later, I started seeing Ken Rosenthal, Jeff Passan and Jon Morosi tweeting that it’s true. No one had any news on who the Dodgers traded away. So I did what I think most Dodgers fans did. I started thinking about who we traded for Betts and Price. I was freaking out that we didn’t lose Verdugo and May in that trade. Soon after people were saying there was a third team involved. Also, while all this was happening my phone was being so slow (cause of all the notifications) and I felt like my phone was going to explode. As we now know the third team involved was the Minnesota Twins.
After all that happened news broke out say this was the trade between the Dodgers, Twins and Red Sox.
Dodgers would get: Mookie Betts, David Price and cash from Boston
Red Sox would get: Alex Verdugo and Brusdar Graterol (prospect pitcher from the Twins)
Twins would get: Kenta Maeda
Maybe the next day some news broke out that I really didn’t want to hear. There was a “problem” with the medical reviews. I lost my fucking mind when this broke out. I couldn’t believe that this was actually happening. Initially I started thinking it was because of Verdugo’s back issues. Then it was confirmed it was the pitcher prospect the Twins were sending to Boston. I also thought that this trade wasn’t going to happen because the Red Sox realized they got fucked in that trade and wanted more. They wanted another top prospect from either us or the Red Sox.
Then it was being said that the trade wasn’t certain anymore. I felt so fucking sick to my stomach. Eventually, I got to a point where I didn’t care anymore. I just wanted to know if we were getting them or not. If it’s bad news then hit me with it.
Now, the official news broke out maybe 1-2 hours ago that the trade has been finalized between the Red Sox and Dodgers. The Dodgers traded with the Twins in a completely separate trade.
Red Sox got: outfielder Alex Verdugo, infielder Jeter Downs and catcher Connor Wong
Dodgers got: outfielder Mookie Betts, starting pitcher David Price and cash.
Man, I am just very happy for all of this to be over and we can move onto spring training.
