On July 31st, 2008 the Dodgers were involved in a three way trade involving the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boston RedSox. The Red Sox received Jason Bay from Pittsburgh. The Pirates received Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen from the RedSox. Pittsburgh also received Andy LaRoche and Bryan Morris from the Dodgers. The Los Angeles Dodgers would receive Manny Ramirez from the Boston RedSox.

The Dodgers were battling for a playoff spot at the trade deadline. With their new acquisition in Manny Ramirez, the Dodger faithful were excited and optimistic about their chances in seeing October baseball. Manny Ramirez brought the energy the team needed and carried the team into October. In 53 games he hit 17 home runs, 53 RBI’s, a .396 batting average, and a .743 slugging percentage. Mannywood was alive and well in Hollywood. The team would end up losing in the 2008 NLCS to the Philadelphia Phillies who ended up winning it all against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Looking to play his first full season in Dodger blue, many Dodger fans were excited about the 2009 season. In May 7th, 2009 Manny Ramírez was handed a 50 game suspension from the MLB for failing a drug test. He tested positive for a female fertility drug that is used to boost your testosterone. On July 22nd, 2009 the Dodgers gave the first 50,000 fans in attendance a Manny Ramírez bobblehead. Manny did not start due to a sore hand. In the bottom of the 6th, Manny came in the game to pinch hit with the bases loaded. He hit a grand slam to Mannywood (left field) and gave the Dodgers a 6-2 win on his bobblehead night. He ended up playing 104 games in 2009 with only 19 home runs, 63 RBI’s and a batting average of .290. The season would come to an end in the 2009 NLCS against, once again the Philadelphia Phillies.

2010 would end up being the last season for Manny as he ended up getting acquired by the Chicago WhiteSox on August 30th, 2010 on a waiver claim. The WhiteSox took on the rest of his salary and that was the end of Mannywood.

Dodger fans won’t forget that energy that he brought to the team in 2008. The fans wearing dreadlocks and seeing the Mannywood sign in left field. The pinch hit grand slam on his bobblehead night. Thank you Manny, for the fun memories you left Dodger fans with.
