Walker Buehler was drafted in the 14th round of the 2012 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He kept his commitment to Vanderbilt instead of signing. Over his three years at Vanderbilt, he went 20-7 with a 2.88 ERA in 49 games striking out 249 batters and walking 83. In 2014, he was a part of the College World Series championship team. He also played for Team USA and the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

After his junior year with the Commodores, the Dodgers drafted Buehler in the 1st round (24th) of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft. He signed on July 17, 2015, for a bonus of $1.78 million. Soon after the Dodgers signed Buehler, they found out he needed Tommy John surgery. On August 23, 2016, he made his professional debut with the Arizona League Dodgers. He then quickly made his way through the Dodgers system pretty quickly, making his Major League debut on September 6, 2017, pitching two scoreless relief innings against the Rockies.

In his short time in the bigs, Walker Buehler has had a few memorable starts that have sparked excitement for his future. In Game 163 of the 2018 season, Buehler went 6.2 innings pitched and only gave up one hit. His most impressive start that season came in Game 3 of the World Series. He threw seven scoreless innings before the Dodgers walked it off in the 18th inning.

In 2019 he made his first All-Star team. Walker Buehler also threw two complete games that season. He’s only the third pitcher in MLB history with multiple games with 15 strikeouts and no walks in a season. Walker Buehler finished last season with a 14-4 record, and an ERA of 3.26 in 30 starts striking out 215 batters. 2021 will be Buehler’s first arbitration-eligible year.
