The Los Angeles Dodgers play from behind and never find their footing in a loss to the Colorado Rockies, 6-3.

Antonio Senzatela set the Dodgers down in order to start the game. Tony Gonsolin went to work and struck-out the side to end the scoreless first. Cody Bellinger was thrown out attempting to stretch a double into a triple with one-out in the second, and Gonsolin struck-out the side again in the home half. With two-down in the third, Zach McKinstry smacked a double into the gap — his first career Major League hit. Senzatela left him stranded though, and Gonsolin, although finally allowing the ball to be put in play, pitched a harmless bottom frame. After a quick top of the fourth, back-to-back singles opened the Rockies half. He got a soft fly-out, but Gonsolin then walked Trevor Story to load the bases. Josh Fuentes’ base hit up the middle scored a pair, putting Colorado in front, 2-0. Gonsolin, with strike-outs number eight and nine, managed to limit the damage and send the game to the fifth. Senzatela hit Will Smith but erased it with an inning-ending double-play of Edwin Ríos. Gonsolin pitched an easy frame to end the inning, concluding his solid day: 5IP, 2ER, 3H, 1BB, 10K (career high). Gonsolin displayed very good stuff during his 82-pitch outing, and there was no reason to keep him out there for any longer at Coors Field. Gavin Lux led-off the sixth with a sharp single, but LA didn’t take advantage. Blake Treinen entered and allowed three-straight (softly hit) singles that extended Colorado’s lead to 3-0. Victor González relieved Treinen, and back-to-back RBI knocks pushed their lead to 5-0 before the inning came to an end. Max Muncy and Cody Bellinger both earned one-out walks against Senzatela in the seventh, enabling him to be pulled. Smith was robbed of extra bases by a diving Ryan McMahon, but Ríos came through with a base hit to get the Dodgers on the board, 5-1. Lux grounded-out, unable to add more, but Pedro Báez pitched a swift frame to finish the inning. Corey Seager singled and Justin Turner and Muncy both walked to load the bases in the eighth; however, LA’s two-out rally was in vain as Bellinger struck-out, failing to pull them closer to the Rockies. Alex Wood, after a couple of hits, allowed a run to score on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the inning, adding another run to the Dodgers’ deficit. In the ninth, Daniel Bard hit Smith, andnd McKinstry reached on a two-out base hit. After defensive indifference, AJ Pollock battled and singled up the middle to score two, making it 6-3. Seager walked, bringing the tying run to the plate in the form of Chris Taylor, who pinch-ran for Turner in the seventh. Mychal Givens entered and got Taylor to ground-out on the first pitch, ending LA’s final chances of a comeback and ending the ballgame.

While they lose the series finale, the boys in blue take 3 of 4 in Denver and complete a 5-2 road trip. After an off-day tomorrow, they’ll host the Oakland Athletics for the opener of a three-game set on Tuesday. Dustin May, 1-1 with an ERA of 2.68, is scheduled to be the starter. There’s a good chance that he ends up coming out of the bullpen for a lengthy outing instead of the being the starter, but nonetheless, he’ll be the guy the Dodgers rely on. Frankie Montas, 3-4 with 5.86 ERA, gets the ball for the A’s. With both squads built to go deep into October, this week’s series will be a fun one. 6:40pm start on Tuesday. Go Dodgers!
