Kenley Jansen Weekly UpdatesDodgers closer Kenley Jansen, a native of Curacao, came up as a catcher through the Dodgers minor league system. In 2009, while playing for the Dodgers’ AA affiliate the Chattanooga Lookouts, he switched to pitching. He hasn’t looked back since.

A year later, Jansen appeared in the majors for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He quickly became one of the best closers in baseball.

Jansen was the 2016-17 National League Relief Pitcher of the Year. As of September 2020, he has a career 2.32 ERA. The Big Man is enjoying a comeback campaign after two down years in 2017-18.

The three time All-Star has more than 300 career saves and is widely considered to be one of the best closers still in the game – if not the best active closer in 2020. Kenley Jansen’s career is so prolific that he has a save against all other 29 MLB teams. He picked up the last one against the Rangers in August of 2020.

Jansen owns a sparkling 2.01 postseason ERA through 2019, and while the long ball has given him trouble in the World Series, his home run rate is lower than its been in years. He is also in the top percentiles of hard hit rate in 2020, evidence that his resurgent success in 2020 is sustainable.

Along with his trademark Mariano Rivera-esque cutter, Kenley Jansen throws a slider, curveball, and four-seam fastball. Jansen, 32, is under contract with the Dodgers through 2021.
