Dodgers and Buehler agree to contract, avoiding arbitration
-
Last night the Dodgers avoided arbitration with right-handed pitcher Walker Buehler agreeing to a 2 year $8 million dollar deal. The deal will include a $2 million dollar signing bonus, $2.75 million salary in 2021, and a $3.25 million salary in 2022. His deal will also include bonuses, his 2022 salary will increase by $500 thousand for the following games started that year, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24, and 28. The contract will also increase by $1.125 million if Buehler can win the Cy Young Award, and will increase by $625 thousand if he finishes second or third in that race.
This seems like a good deal for the Dodgers and for Buehler. There’s an incentive for him to go out there stay healthy and win a Cy Young Award. Buehler has been the best Dodgers pitcher in the playoffs since he’s been called up. He’s the ace of the staff, and this is a good starter deal. He’s going to make a ton of money real soon, and I hope it’s the Dodgers paying him that money.
