A week in review: Julio Urias

This week Julio Urias had a start against the Rockies in Colorado. Now, when you first think about that, the first thing that comes to mind is he gets shelled right? I know my first thought was oh boy, here we go. To my surprise, Julio actually pitched well in his 5 2/3 innings. He only struck out 2 batters but he didn’t walk any. He did give up 2 runs and 3 hits but after the first inning, he was rolling. Like the majority of his starts, he struggled mightily in the first inning and then settled in and got outs. His command was better as evident by his no walks, and after the first inning he never labored in innings. In fact there were some innings where he finished without throwing 10+ pitches. All in all I thought it was a very solid outing from Julio especially when thinking about what this start could’ve been. If he can ever get over his 1st inning woes he could be a really good starting pitcher. He’s already a solid middle of the order pitcher and has the potential to be a number 2 Hopefully this will lead into strong playoff performances.
