What upcoming prospects should we be looking out for?

Spring Training is starting to be in full swing with games going on, and plenty of Minor Leaguers so it got me thinking, which prospects should we be looking out for? Firstly we’re going to take a look at 20-year-old Cuban Outfielder, Andy Pages.

Pages was signed in 2018 for a $300,000 signing bonus out of Cuba. This was the same signing period in which the Dodgers snagged top international prospect Diego Cartaya who MLB.com writers labeled as the Dodgers next breakout star, but we’re here to talk about Andy pages.

Andy Pages is ranked in the top 30 Dodgers prospects and depending on what provocation you like he’s in the top 10. Pitcherslist.com has him in the top 3. Prospects1500.com also has him in the top 10 at 7, so he’s highly regarded. in 2019 with the Ogden Raptors as an 18-year-old, in 63 games he slashed .298/.395/.651 and had an Ops of 1.049 so he absolutely destroyed the ball in 2019.

He’s an Outfielder who has spent most of his time in Right but will likely start to get more reps in Left Field as one Mookie Betts will be manning RF for the Dodgers for years to come. Pages actually played Left Field last night but he made a lackadaisical error which allowed the runner to take 2nd base. He’s seen as a hitter who has a pretty good understanding of the strike zone despite striking out 28% of the time in 2019. Interestingly enough he was more of a contact hitter starting hitting home runs cause he has natural raw power and thus he started trying to hit nothing but homers creating a hole in his swing. The Dodgers are confident enough they can find a balance where he goes back to being a contact hitter while using his natural strength to hit for power.

He was an above-average runner but as he’s physically matured and put on weight he’s likely to be seen as an average runner with sneaky athletic speed. He’s seen as someone athletic enough to play CenterField and has decent range but he profiled better in Right because he has a cannon for an arm but like mentioned earlier Right is occupied for possibly 12 years.

Andy Pages was supposed to be in that nixed deal to the Angels along with Ross Stripling and Joc Pederson. I’ll say the Dodgers are lucky and happy that the deal fell through cause the sky’s the limit for this kid. There are some things that need to be worked on such as refining his swing and maybe toning down his leg kick, but the potential is definitely there and we should be excited to see him rise through the minors. It’s likely he starts with low-A Rancho Cucamonga but by season’s end could potentially be at High-A Great Lakes and maybe even Double-A Tulsa if things go really well.
