Joe Kelly Is A Bad Man

CLINCH WATCH 2021 – Joe Kelly, Effectively Chaotic Evil – 9/11/2021

Kenley Jansen Slams the Door on the Padres

Third inning himbo power from Bellinger and Lux (batting seventh and eighth) put the Dodgers on the board first.  Belli drew a walk, then piston chugged his way around all the bases to score on a Luxian liner to left field.  I’m not exaggerating when I say both of them probably needed that.

The other pleasant surprise was a three run blast to left center that scored Lux and Buehler off the recently less-hot bat of Mookie Betts.  And by pleasant surprise, I mean I almost fell off of the treadmill at Planet Fitness cheering.  Even with his less-than-Mookian performance this year, Betts has still been a major contributor to the team.  The prospect of him heating up again in September is very…pleasant indeed.

Joe Kelly did his best Bad Man as well, coming to the mound after Treinen gave up two runs in the seventh to tie the game.  With the very quick Fernando Tatis Jr. on third, Kelly came in and struck out the next two men, both swinging at Kelly’s nastiest stuff.

Heh.

Kenley Jansen, (who just welcomed a new daughter to the family today!) decisively slammed the door on the Padres.  He did it on a ground out, a pop out, and a strike out looking that absolutely froze Trent Grisham at the plate.

Dodgers improve to 90-53, Padres move to 74-67.

Giants Cream Cubs…Hard

Cubs pitching combined with Giants plate discipline combined for eleven free bases to the San Francisco visitors.  And while most were focused on Kris Bryant’s return to Wrigley, it was another former Cub, Tommy La Stella, who left the heaviest mark on the game.  La Stella had three hits, scored three runs, and knocked in 5 RBIs.

The walks absolutely made the difference in the game, as the Cubs had 11 hits to the Giants 13, but when those hits come with runners on, well, the score does THAT.

Giants improve to 92-50.  Cubs turn their eyes to 2021.

Rockies Aren’t Shut Out

The Rockies managed to not get shut out with a solo homer in the 6th from Trevor Story.  It was his 21st of the year.  Otherwise…not so great.

Rockies move to 65-78 on the season.

The Diamondbacks Are Still A Team and They Won a Good One

D-backs won against the Mariners last night in a decisive 7-3 victory.  Absolutely crucial in that victory was homegrown right fielder Daulton Varsho, who had a standout night at the plate.  He had three hits on the night, one of them a 2-run homer in the 4th off Chris Flexen.  Varsho had a total of 4 RBIs on the night and absolutely was the difference in how the night shook out.

With this win, they are tied with the Orioles for last place in the major leagues with a record of 46-96.
