Tony Gonsolin Arises Again in OKC
Tony Gonsolin made the first of what’s reported to be between 3 to 5 starts for Oklahoma City the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate. He was only scheduled to throw two innings, but he got through them so quickly and efficiently that he went back out there for a third. It was said on the broadcast that the Dodgers only want him to get built up to 4 to 5 innings before calling him up, so we may see him sooner than we think. Onto the game!
Tony Gonsolin and OKC vs Albuquerque Isotopes
In his first inning of work, Tony G retired the side in order on just eight pitches. He located his fastball well and generated three weak flyouts to quickly retire the side.
The 2nd inning of work for Gonsolin was more of the same. This time making 14 pitches but still a 1-2-3 inning, even tallying his first strikeout. another inning of locating well, hitting his spots. Greg Bird hit the ball hard but hit it right to Zach Mckinstry, who’s also rehabbing with the team and playing right field.
The third inning is when Gonsolin had to work a little bit and get out of some trouble. The first batter led off the inning with a rocket double down the left-field line on the first pitch. He then battled through a 9 pitch at-bat before striking out the batter, which was nice to see. He then got a groundout to 2nd and struck out the final batter on a filthy split change.
All in all, what we saw from the Cat Man in OKC was encouraging. He was efficient, with 39 pitches in 3 innings. He struck out 3, got pretty weak contact except for 2 batters, and located his pitches well. It was also nice to see him battle through some issues with the leadoff double and the 9 pitch at-bat. He battled and came out of it better. Gonsolin will now be rested, and we will see him pitch again for Oklahoma City in 5 days. Here’s to hoping that outing will be as good as this one.
