Make It Major Moscow Mule

Sometimes you gotta go back to fundamentals. With baseball and cocktails, doing the simple things extremely well is the foundation of a good time. Time to brush up on the basics. Time to Make it Major with a Moscow Mule.

STARTING LINEUP:

1.5-2oz Vodka
.5oz Lime Juice
4oz Ginger Beer
Slice of lime
4-5 mint leaves

BATTING ORDER:

Traditionally, this drink is served in a copper mug. A fun drinking fact about copper is that since copper is such a great conductor of heat, this drink will stay colder for a lot less time than something served in a glass or other non-conductive drinking vessel, which means you have less time to drink it. Add lime juice and vodka to a copper mug. Fill about half the mug with ice, then top with 4 ounces of ginger beer. Garnish with a quarter of a lime and a sprig of mint and gently place the other quarter into the drink. Take a few sips and relax poolside as we enjoy the last couple days of Spring.

Since vodka doesn’t impart a ton of flavor to the drink, the main flavors you want to balance to your personal preference are the lime juice and ginger beer. Some people go down to as little as .25oz lime juice, but I tend to stick at .5oz, and I generally don’t go up to more than .75oz or it starts to get too aggressive, especially if you can’t add the full 4oz of ginger beer due to your mug or glass’s size.
