Lux Blasts Grand Slam in Decisive Win – 5/18/21

Lux Blasts Grand Slam

Lux Blasts Grand Slam in 1-9 Win for Dodgers – Game Recap – 5/18/21

The Dodgers took the first game of the series against the Diamondbacks and hoped for the same result tonight. Urías started for the Boys in Blue.  In his last outing, he only gave up two hits over seven innings of one-run baseball. Urías remains one of the Dodgers’ best starting pitchers this year, with a record of success against Arizona. When Urías is on his game, it’s just a matter of the offense squeezing across a few runs.  Two homers, plus a Lux blast for a grand slam kept the Dodgers sizzling hot.

Mookie Leadoff Homer

Mookie Betts started the ball rolling with his second leadoff home run of the 2021 season. The ball barely made it over the wall, but it went over.  And the Dodgers had a 1-0 lead.

The lead didn’t last long as Urías hit a batter with one out in the top of the 2nd and then gave up a two-out double, allowing the Dbacks to tie it up. After this double, Urías settled in and didn’t allow another hit in the game until the 7th inning. After retiring two, he gave up another hit in the inning, which ended his day on the mound. Treinen came in and got the fly ball out to end the inning and finish up Urías final line. Urías was fantastic in yet another great outing from him. With this one finished, he now has five starts on the year where he has gone 6+ innings and given up only one run or fewer.

Hot Return for Taylor, Lux Explosion

The Dodger offense slowed down a bit after Mookie’s leadoff shot. But in the 5th inning, they put together two hits to retake the lead. Muncy singled with one-out, setting the table for Chris Taylor – his first game back after he scratched two days ago with right wrist soreness. CT3’s wrist looked just fine when he took a pitch at the bottom of the zone and deposited it into the right field pavilion to give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead.

In the 7th inning, the Dodgers made sure they weren’t going to give the D-backs any chance at coming back in this one. After two base hits and a walk, the bases were loaded with one out for Pujols. He took the first pitch off the elbow, and a run came across to score, making it a 4-1 Dodgers lead. Then Lux came to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. As I mentioned in last night’s game recap, he has been CLUTCH with two outs and RISP this season. Lux came up clutch once again as he blasted a ball into right field for his first career grand slam! Dodgers were up 8-1, and Lux was celebrating a home run for the second Tuesday in a row. Dodgers tacked on one more run in the 8th when Mookie led off the inning with a base hit, and Smith eventually brings him home on a single of his own.

The Bullpen Shuts It Down

Price got into this game in the 8th inning for the first time since returning from his hamstring strain that put him on the IL. Not seeing any game action since April 25, he hurled a 1-2-3 inning while striking out one. Slowly but surely, the Dodgers are getting their bullpen arms back. Vesia, recalled today when Cleavinger went on the IL, took the mound in the 9th inning and set the D-backs down in order to secure the win.

Dodgers got it done on every level tonight. Urías was fantastic, the offense showed up, and the bullpen shut it down. The Dodgers are hot right now and look like they’re just getting started. With a win tomorrow night, they can pick up their third straight series win. First pitch is at 7:10 PM PDT.
