Turner Finds Other Ways To Contribute On The Field

Turner Finds Other Ways To Contribute On The Field – Weekly Recap: May 10-16

After a tough one-run defeat against the Angels in Anaheim, our guys jumped on Interstate Five and headed north to friendlier, more familiar turf to face the Mariners. Like in Seattle, the teams played a quick two-game series helped our team get back to our winning ways.  Turner was not as active in the batters box this week, but as usual, he finds other ways to contribute on the field.

May 11 – Strikeouts Galore (and my Birthday!)

Boy, the Mariners starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi was on fire all night!  Kikuchi dealt a season-high 11 strikeouts to the Dodgers. Unfortunately, four of them were to Justin Turner, handing the veteran Dodger a golden sombrero. However, Gavin Lux made sure that I had a happy birthday.   Lux hit the game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth off of Rafael Montero on a 1-0 count. It was an absolute no-doubter!

Dodgers win 4-6.

May 12 – No Strikeouts

Justin had a walk in the fourth inning and a single in the fifth, but more importantly, he had no strikeouts. In fact, the single allowed him to come home on Max Muncy’s home run. This allowed the Dodgers the team to cruise after that and take both games of this quick series.

Dodgers win 1-7.

May 13 – Off Day

The Miami Marlins came into town for a three-game series as the Dodgers looked to continue their winning ways and extend a modest two-game winning streak. The Marlins and the Dodgers have something in common at this point, and both are looking to climb up in the division rankings.

May 14 – Second Inning Magic

Most of the Dodger damage in this game came in an eight-run second inning. It looked as though that was going to be all of the runs that the Dodgers would score. However, Turner’s single in the seventh put him on base when Gavin Lux hit a bases-loaded screamer back to Marlins reliever Ross Detwiler.  Detwiler caught the ball and immediately attempted to double up Max Muncy at second. But the throw was wild, allowing Justin, who was at third base, to score, and Max Muncy to get to third base.

Dodgers win 6-9.

May 15 – Shutout Victory, Series Win

Justin’s only hit came in the fourth by way of a single. This set him up to score when Chris Taylor worked a bases-loaded walk. The team picked up six more runs and didn’t look back at all.

Dodgers win 0-7.

May 16 – Series Finale

In this game, Turner had no hits in four at-bats. This was detrimental to the game, since he left two runners on base in such a close game that would have absolutely turned the tide of the game.

Dodgers lose 3-2.

Overall, the team has seems back to their winning ways just in time for the upcoming schedule against division foes. This weeks starts with four against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and then concludes with a trip to Northern California against the hated rivals in the San Francisco Giants. Besides the dreaded “golden sombrero” game, I feel as though Justin Turner found other was to contribute on the field than in the batter’s box.  I expect him to continue to deliver, especially with the upcoming series being under the microscope, he absolutely will.
