Bauer Throws Seven Scoreless Innings Against Miami – Weekly Recap: May 10-16

Dodgers need to support Bauer with runs, or his opt-out is inevitable. Trevor Bauer has balled out for our boys so far, proving his huge contract is worth it this season (so far). Luckily for the last year’s Cy Young winner, the Dodgers bats are starting to heat up – a recipe for disaster for the Miami Marlins.

May 14th vs. Marlins

Trevor Bauer started out the night with back to back 1-2-3 innings. In the first, he struck out the side on a generous called strike to Miami left fielder Corey Dickerson.  Bauer collected his fourth and fifth strikeouts of the game in the second.

Bauer looked un-hit-able until  the third inning, when Marlins starting pitcher Jordan Holloway singled with two outs. The next batter should have been the last of the inning on wild pitch to Miguel Rojas that would have been a swinging strike three.  But the dirt ball ricocheted hard off of Will Smith and went all the way to the back wall, so Rojas took first base. The next batter, Jesús Aguilar, grounded out to first to finally end the inning

Trevor faced four batters in the fourth, striking out three of them. Ten strikeouts on 72 pitches for the reigning Cy Young winner. He followed that up with three more innings where he faced only the minimum.

Bauer got a lot of run support this game, but he also had some help from home plate umpire Chad Fairchild, who called a wide zone all night long.  Both the Marlins hitting coach and notedly level-headed player Matt Beaty were both ejected during the night for arguing balls and strikes.

Dodgers win the game 7-0. Bauer threw seven scoreless innings against Miami and struck out 10 batters. With an upcoming bullpen game planned for the next series, the Dodgers needed Bauer to go deep.  And he did.
