Dodgers Shutout Marlins – 5/15/21

Dodgers had a chance to lock up their second series win in a row with a win over the Marlins in tonight’s game. Bauer started on the mound.  The last time he pitched, he made some comments after the game, saying he was pissed off with how the team was playing. It’s only been three games, but the Dodgers had yet to lose a game since those comments. Tonight he might help make it four.

Ump Ejections

Bauer seemed locked in from the first pitch. He struck out the first five guys he faced with a few umpire gifts.  The Marlins hitting coach took exception and was tossed from the game. Beaty also wound up tossed out by the ump on a strike three call out of the zone two innings later. Both sides weren’t happy with the ump.

It worked in Bauer’s favor on a handful of calls and helped him rack up 10 strikeouts through four innings. His season-high in strikeouts would have to stay at 10, but the Dodgers did get three more innings out of him going seven and not giving up a run. It was his second seven-inning shutout game of the season and looked the best he’s looked over the past couple of weeks.

The offense wasn’t particularly hot tonight, but they found ways to score runs when the opportunity was there. Turner and Muncy singled to lead off the fourth inning. Smith loaded the bases when he drew a walk. Taylor brought the first run across on Holloway’s second walk in a row, giving the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

This was when Beaty got ejected for saying something along the lines of “you’re blind” or “you’re so bad.” You can decipher for yourself here. Dodgers got their second run of the inning on Lux’s ground out.

Seager Injury

The Dodgers got things going in the fifth.  Two on with nobody out, but one of those base runners came at the expense of Seager taking a pitch off the hand. He left the game without ever making his way to first base. Neuse took over for him at first, and Muncy singled one back up the middle giving the Dodgers a 3-0 lead. Smith walked for the second time, loading the bases.  This time, Taylor ground out, but a run did come home to score. With how Bauer was pitching in this one, a 4-0 lead heading to the sixth felt like a comfortable lead.

They continued to add onto their lead in the eighth inning when the Dodgers put the first three batters on base. With the bases loaded, Peters singled, driving in two giving the Dodgers a 6-0 lead. He did get tagged out making his way back to first, but we’ll go ahead and forgive him for the aggressiveness. Mookie hit a sac fly, and the Dodgers were up 7-0 heading to the ninth.

1-2-3 For Joe Kelly

Kelly made his second appearance since coming off the IL from shoulder surgery in tonight’s game. He looked great on the mound setting the Marlins down in order without any issue. With Kelly closing it out, the Dodgers secured their fourth straight win and looked solid all around while doing it. They’ll look for their second straight sweep tomorrow at 1:10 PM PDT.
