Mostly Small Hits for Justin Turner

Small Hits for Justin Turner Against Cubs, Angels – Recap: May 3-9

As our Dodgers continued on their ten-game, three-city road trip, they had to feel good leaving Milwaukee. The offense had two grand slams and scored sixteen runs in a blowout of the Brewers. In the words of Freddy Mercury, “The show must go on,” and the next time the curtain was raised was in the windy city for three games against one of their oldest rivals, the Cubs. Turner scored mostly small hits against both the Cubs and the Angels with only one home run for the week.

Justin Turner vs. Cubs

May 3 – Rain out- No Game

May 4 – Doubleheader: Game One

Justin would like to forget this one as his only shining moment came in the third inning via a walk. His other at-bats were all groundouts which resulted in him leaving two men on base. Cubs win 1-7.

May 4 – Double Header: Game Two

Edwin Ríos got the start at third base for the second and final game of the doubleheader and scored at the time the go-ahead run on a very wild pitch by Cubs pitcher Dillon Maples while Turner just entered the game as a pinch-hitter. Justin then hit a solo home run for some insurance. However, it was simply not enough, as the home team celebrated in extra innings. Dodgers lose 3-4.

May 5 – Another extra-inning game

In his three official swings of the bat, Turner produced a single. He had two strikeouts and left one man on base. He did get on base with two walks, but the offense couldn’t get going hot enough to overcome the Cubs.  The sweep was complete.

Dodgers lose 5-6.

Justin Turner vs. Angels

The Freeway Series saw the team come back to Southern California, and it couldn’t come at a better time. Mike Trout and the two-way player Shohei Ohtani have not been easy to contend with. These two have been the team’s heart and soul of the offense, and great Fantasy Baseball choices, if I do say so myself. I digress. That is neither here nor there…… so back to Turner.

May 7 – Rough Series Opener

A single in the first and a walk in the seventh were the only times Turner stood on a base. It was either a strikeout or a groundout that completed his other at-bats, with three men left on base. Brutal. Dodgers lose 2-9.

May 8 – An almost huge blown lead

Justin had one hit, one run scored, and he drove in one run as well as the offense exploded for fourteen runs. However, the bullpen gave up eleven runs! Dodgers win 14-11.

May 9 – Freeway Series Finale

The walk in the third inning by JT set up the only run being scored in the entire game for our guys. He did not have any hits to go with this walk, and the Angels were able to squeeze out this one-run victory. Dodgers lose 1-2.

It is tough seeing this team struggle so much this early in the season, especially after earning the World Series not so long ago. I know that injuries have played a huge part, and I hope that we get those out of the way now along with the losing so we can go into the second half of the season strong.  It’s been mostly small hits for Justin Turner against teams like the Cubs and Angels. I hope that the injured players come back healthy, and I also hope Turner can keep being consistent with just a little more of his usual power.
