Bauer Strong Against Rockies, Padres

Trevor Bauer had two strong outings this week against the Rockies and an intense outing against the Padres.

April 13th Bauer Against the Colorado Rockies

Bauer started things off right getting a 1-2-3 inning and striking out Story to end the inning. In the second inning, he got into some trouble early, walking the first two batters.  He then struck out two of the next three batters.

In the third, Bauer got the opposing pitcher Senzatela called out on strikes. After giving up a single to Garrett Hampson, Hampson advanced on a groundout.  A passed ball by catcher Will Smith moved the runner to third. Bauer locked in and struck out Story for the second time to end the inning.

The fourth through seventh were easy 1-2-3 innings for Bauer with a total of nine strikeouts for the reigning Cy Young winner.  He sat down his last 14 faced batters.

Trevor Bauer take a bow! Have yourself a night!

April 18th Bauer Versus the San Diego Padres

In the first inning, Bauer picked up where he left off from his last outing, facing the minimum number of Padres hitters and picking up his first K of the night. The second inning brought the Bauer versus Machado matchup that I think a lot of Padres and Dodgers fans were looking forward to. Manny Machado won the first at-bat with a single to left field, but Trevor got Eric Hosmer to hit into a double play to make up for it.  After giving up a walk to Tommy Pham, Bauer ends the inning by getting his second strikeout of the night on Jorge Mateo.

Bauer seemed to settle in for the third, facing the minimum and striking out opposing pitcher Blake Snell. In the fourth, Cronenworth cracked a hanging curveball from Bauer to cut the Dodgers lead in half 2-1. Bauer then gave up a single to Machado, but was able to strike out Pham swinging with a nasty cutter that was a good foot off the plate! It was his fourth strikeout of the game.

For the fifth, Bauer once more faced the minimum, racking up his 5th K of the game on a very generous called strike 3.  He ended his outing with a solid 6th, striking out Fernando Tatís Jr. on his 98th pitch to end the inning, pounding his chest and giving a loud yell.

Trevor Bauer was very good in his latest two outings, though I’d say his better outing was against the Padres. Not better numbers but the intensity of the series put on some weird pressure for a game on April 18th. Bauer is showing people why the Dodgers are paying $40M a year for him.
