DUSTIN MAY FREEWAY SERIES RECAP

Dustin May Freeway Series Recap: March 30th
Dustin May’s Freeway Series performance was yet another solid Spring Training outing. Didn’t strikeout as many people as we’ve seen in the previous starts but still did a really good job to maneuver through what should be a potent lineup for the Angels.
May vs Angels
In his first inning of work, he gave up a hit to Ohtani on a 98 MPH fastball down the middle but then got Rendon to ground into a double play to end the inning. Had a battle with Fletcher but rather quick work for May.
In May’s second inning he gave up a hard base hit to Pujols on another fastball that wasn’t elevated enough. But got weak groundouts and a flyout to get through that inning.
The 3rd inning of work for May was really good as well. Started with Fowler grounding out then May struck out Fletcher on a fastball perfectly placed at the knees. Then Ohtani grounded out hardly.
The 4th inning started out rocky for May as he gave up a hit to Trout, he struck out Rendon on again a perfectly placed fastball at the knees but then surrendered an RBI single to Justin Upton. He struck out Pujols on a nasty slider then got Iglesias on a groundout.
In his 5th inning of work, he got 3 pretty quick and easy groundouts to get through that inning.
He started the 6th inning and picked up his 4th strikeout on a high fastball before Roberts took him out. Really strong performance from May to end his spring.
All in all, May showcased why he’s so highly thought of as a starter. He mixed his pitches a lot better than we’ve seen previously. He’s now throwing more 4 seamers up in the zone to pair with that 2 seamer and throwing the curve a lot more. He’s had ups and downs and that’s to be expected for a 23-year-old but a really solid spring for May.
