The Day Baseball Stood Still
A day in March without Baseball. Never did I think I’d ever type that phrase. Thursday, March 12th 2020, the commissioners office indefinitely suspends all baseball operations for the upcoming season. We wished for anything but this. We asked for the MLB to take precautions but only with the hope the season could go on unaffected. We hoped. We prayed. It helped nothing.
Sports for most people is a roundabout hobby that gets treated as a good jacket or summer dress. You wear it for the season and when it’s time to put it away you do so without a second thought or hesitation. For others though, sports mean everything to them. Baseball in particular touches the lives of millions of people throughout the world. Personally it’s what keeps me sane during this time of year. I can turn on a game-regardless of the team-and just disappear into it, all of life’s stresses & problems would just be forgotten. That’s gone now and in its place is just a big ole empty void.
I don’t have solutions to cope, I don’t have any words to make this any less-excuse my language-shitty. It just “is what it is”. This virus is something out of everyone’s control and by suspending the season was what the MLB has to do in order to protect its players and staff. We don’t like it, it straight up sucks for some whereas others are just moving on. It was necessary, and it was for the best.
Even though the game we love stands still, that’s not an excuse for us to do the same. Life must go in even in the face of adversity.
