Screaming my head off, for the love of the Dodgers
Hey, its Juls!
Wow, today’s 11-10 win against the Padres was SOMETHING ELSE.
Let’s first start with the heat. Today’s weather was 95 degrees, and it was hot. I was dying just sitting in the sun, I can’t imagine being these guys playing in the heat.
A lot of the game was just some back and forth with both teams scoring runs. Today, the bottom of the 9th was THE. BEST. PART. My friends and I had moved down to field level earlier in the game, and we somehow ended up behind the dugout. I have to say a lot of it was a blur leading up to Maxs’ at bat. I remember yelling when Joc got tagged out at 3rd, but I yelled to him that I STILL loved him. (Plus it was only 1 out, with Verdugo at first. Corey came up to bat and proceeded to get on base because he is just that good.)
Now this was where the real excitement comes in, Max “Funky” Muncy and his final at bat. I can’t even remember how many balls he fouled off but he got Yates to a 3-2 count with his disciplined batting.
During his at bat my friends and I started chants of “Let’s go dodgers”. We were so loud, we got the attention of a few of the players in the dugout. This FUELED me, plus I was rushing with adrenaline from my anxiety and (at the time) the hopes of a potential walk off. I started screaming at Max to “keep battling”, to “keep taking charge by calling time out”, and to “tie this shit up!” My favorite moment was when I got everyone to chant “Let’s go Muncy”, including Kristopher Negrón. (This fueled me even more).
We started yelling , and by the power of Max Muncys’ skills, HE WALKED THAT SHIT OFF with a 2 run DOUBLE! Everyone immediately stood up in the crowds, the players began to hop over the dugout to take off running to Muncy. Verdugo scored, and in came Seager as the ball was coming towards home but it was off the plate and HE. WAS. SAFE. The guys took off running to Muncy, barely letting him round second and they celebrated.
This HAD to be one of my favorite walkoffs. Everyone was tired from the heat, the stadium was less than half filled, but it was still SO LOUD. Max Muncy, you were the hero of todays game and no one is surprised that you were the one to do so.
I love the Dodgers, and I keep saying it, but this team is SPECIAL. This is our year.
Till next time,
Juls
This is so cool. I could close my eyes and just picture myself in your shoes. Thank you for sharing. Yesterday’s win was definitely exciting!
